Foodle: the daily Wordle for food lovers

Foodle works like Wordle, except every answer is something from the kitchen: a fruit, a dish, a drink, a spice or a tool. You get six tries to find today's five-letter food word, and a new puzzle goes live every day.

How to play Foodle

Type any real five-letter word and press Enter. It doesn't have to be food, but the answer always is.
Green means the letter is in the word and in the right spot.
Yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different spot.
Gray means the letter isn't in the word at all.
Use what you learn to narrow it down. Solve it in six guesses to keep your streak alive.

When you finish, the dish card explains the answer. BHAJI, ADOBO and QUESO all have a story, and plenty of players learn a new food this way.

Daily Foodle

One word a day, the same for everyone, numbered from Foodle #1 on January 1, 2022. The daily puzzle is the only one that counts toward your streak.

Foodle Unlimited

Can't wait until tomorrow? Unlimited gives you a fresh word as soon as you finish the last one. Pick a themed pack, or play Everything:

Seasonal packs follow the American calendar: Game Day through the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl, Backyard Cookout from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Fall Flavors for apple season and Halloween, Thanksgiving through November, and Holiday Baking in December.

Foodle tips and the best starting words

We tested every allowed opening word against all 370 answers in the daily Foodle schedule. Here is what the numbers show:

CARES and RAISE are the strongest everyday openers. Out of 370 possible answers, CARES leaves about 9 on average after one guess and RAISE about 10. STARE and SNARE come close.
SAUCE is the best food-word opener. SAUTE is right behind it, and both beat CRANE.
Skip AUDIO. It's a popular Wordle opener, but against Foodle answers it leaves about 35 candidates on average, almost four times as many as RAISE. ADIEU isn't much better.
Think A, E and S. A appears in 44% of answers, E in 42% and S in 40%.
Remember kitchen words. Answers aren't only ingredients. Tools like LADLE and SPORK, verbs like BASTE and BROIL, and flavors like BLAND show up too.
Plurals are fair game. About one answer in six ends in S. CAKES, CLAMS, MINTS and SPUDS have all been answers.
Watch the calendar. Holidays get a themed word, and the answers lean seasonal: grill food in summer, apples and cider in fall.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the new Foodle come out?

At midnight in your own time zone, so players in New York and Los Angeles each get the new word at midnight local time. While daylight saving time is on, the switch lands at 1:00 a.m. instead.

What is the Taste hint?

If you're stuck, the Taste hint tells you what kind of food the answer is: a fruit, a dessert, a drink, kitchen gear and so on. Using it doesn't break your streak, but your shared result shows a 💡 so your friends know.

Is there a hard mode?

Yes, in Settings. In hard mode, every green letter has to stay in place and every yellow letter has to appear in your later guesses. Shared results from hard mode carry an asterisk.

Do I need an account?

No. Foodle is free and runs in your browser. Your stats, streak and game in progress are saved on your own device. If you clear your browser data, or play in a private window, they're gone.

How do I share my score?

Tap Share when you finish. You'll get the familiar grid of colored squares with no spoilers. Save image makes a square picture sized for Instagram Stories and group chats.
